Title: Lonely Hearts Collide Author: Me. Fandom: Starship Troopers 1. Pairing: future Johnny/Dawn *OC*, established Johnny/Carmen. ...................... Casting:
Johnny Rico: Casper Van Dien. Carmen Ibanez: Denise Richards. Desiree 'Dizzy' Flores: Dina Meyer. Dawn 'Sunny Jim' Jiminez: Ashley Greene. Carl Jenkins(?): Neil Patrick Harris. ...................... Chapter One:
It was the end of the school year and five students couldn't be happier.
"The end of another school year, and for me no doubt another failure..." Mr Rasczak sighed, head snapping to the side to see one student staring off into space, another using the IM to talk to someone on the other side of school, "Rico, Sunny Jim." Johnny Rico and Dawn Jiminez lifted their heads.
"Sorry, Mr Rasczak," Johnny sighed. Dawn chuckled, "Sorry, Uncle Jean. Carl was warning me about the chemistry test." Dawn tucked a lock of wavy black hair behind her ear, uncovering the bluetooth earpiece. Johnny looked over at her, most male students considering him in a prime place, able to see down Dawn's top with barely an eye flick. Chemistry test, my ass, Mr Rasczak shook his head. Johnny took stock of Dawn's appearance. Bright orange tank top with a plunging neckline, one that gave the perfect amount of cleavage for her D cup breasts. Johnny could hear Dizzy snickering, just barely over Mr Rasczak talking once more. Over the tank top was a long sleeve, softer green, thin sweater that almost looked too big for her. She wore hip hugging, low rider brown cargo pants. And he could see the peek of her rainbow tights above her sneakers. Johnny jumped when Mr Rasczak hit him over the head with a rolled up paper.
"Eyes in your head, boy," He growled out. Dawn rolled her eyes.
"I don't mind, Uncle Jean," She chuckled low in her throat, she batted at Johnny with a crimson dyed lock, "he can look all he wants. It just proves that SOMEBODY can tear his eyes off Carmy," she tossed to Carmen, who was rolling her eyes, "you tease the poor guy on purpose, Carmy, and you know it." Mr Rasczak let out a piercing whistle, which made everyone but Dawn jump. Dawn only glared at him.
"I like my eardrums where they are, Uncle Jean," She grumbled, hearing Carl laugh at her through the earpiece.
SUPERBRAIN: So Johnny was checking you out again? SUNNYJIM: what do you mean again? SUPERBRAIN: *is surprised* You mean you haven't caught him before? *SUNNYJIM is shrugging*
SUPERBRAIN: Damn, Dawnie, you're getting soft. Usually, you catch everything. SUNNYJIM: Oh, fucking, well. SUPERBRAIN: *is changing subject* What colors did you put in your hair this time? SUNNYJIM: Crimson, platinum blonde, bubblegum pink, leaf green, and lemon yellow. *SUPERBRAIN is nodding*.
SUPERBRAIN: Did you make sure to get the permanent ones or will you be changing them like always? SUNNYJIM: I got the permanent ones. They may have numbed my scalp, but I've still got a migraine. SUPERBRAIN: Ask Mr Rasczak if you can go to the nurse. SUNNYJIM: I'll ask him for my meds after class. My mom gave them to him to hold on to. She got it approved by the nurse and the principal. *SUPERBRAIN is confused.*
SUNNYJIM: *is laughing* that's a first. SUPERBRAIN: shut up, dawnie. SUNNYJIM: kiss my ass, brainiac. SUPERBRAIN: get johnny to do it. *JRICO has logged on* *DIZZYDEZZY has logged on*
JRICO: get me to do what? SUPERBRAIN: kiss dawnie's ass. DIZZYDEZZY: *snorts* yeah right. johnny's chicken shit. wouldn't know what to do with her. SUNNYJIM: johnny's a fucking virgin, dez, of course he wouldn't.
Dawn had a thing with a guy who went to Mobile Infantry. He was killed six months into his first tour of duty. Before moving on to their next class, Dawn got something from Mr Rasczak for her migraine. Dawn had history, Carl had Biology. Dizzy, Carmen and Johnny had chemistry.
*CARMELCAKE has logged on.*
SUNNYJIM: glad you decided to join us, carmy. CARMELCAKE: what have you guys been doing to johnny in my absence. DIZZYDEZZY: tormenting him. SUPERBRAIN: dawnie's getting soft, carmen. she missed johnny staring at her boobs again. *CARMELCAKE is rolling her eyes.*
SUNNYJIM: *is pouting* hope your eyes get stuck, bitch. CARMELCAKE: *pokes SUNNYJIM* suck it up, bitch. SUNNYJIM: *whines* i would, but johnny only likes you. *SUNNYJIM whips out a unicorn lolly.*
SUPERBRAIN: you are an evil bitch, dawnie. *SUNNYJIM licks the lolly, then laughs when SUPERBRAIN and JRICO whimper.*
JRICO: evil, evil bitch.
When their shared free period rolled around, Dawn jumped onto the back of the passing Johnny. Carmen jumped to the side, not wanting to get taken down if Johnny stumbled under Dawn's weight. Dawn, Johnny and Carl knew each other since birth. Dizzy and Carmen had only come along later on, during elementary school. Dawn wrapped her arms around Johnny's neck, her legs around him, and placed a kiss on Johnny's cheek. Carmen rolled her eyes. To her, Johnny and Dawn looked like nothing but a pair of rough housing siblings. But to everyone else with eyes, they knew Dawn wanted Johnny. Dawn just wasn't the kind of girl to steal another girl's man.
"You are going to break me one of these days, Dawnie," Johnny croaked. The male students around them looked on in jealousy when Johnny's hands went back, holding Dawn up on his back by her ass. Carl rolled his eyes. He knew the two idiots he called friends were in love with each other, but Johnny was so infatuated with Carmen, he hated seeing it break Dawn's heart.

Title: Lonely Hearts Collide Author: Me. Fandom: Starship Troopers 1. Pairing: future Johnny/Dawn *OC*, established Johnny/Carmen. ...................... Casting:
Johnny Rico: Casper Van Dien. Carmen 'Carmy' Ibanez: Denise Richards. Desiree 'Dizzy' Flores: Dina Meyer. Dawn 'Sunny Jim' Jiminez: Ashley Greene. Carl 'Super Brain' Jenkins(?): Neil Patrick Harris. ...................... Chapter Two:
Dawn sat on the corner of Carl's desk, watching her two oldest friends running through the psychic aptitude test. She's listening to loud rock music on her headphones, but she's still able to make out Johnny and Carl anyway.
"Don't think about it," Carl spoke, visibly frustrated, "just go on instinct." Dawn snorted and rolled her eyes, Carl looking to her before back to Johnny.
"Ace of spades," Johnny speaks finally. No match. Dawn snickered and picked at the crouscant Carl's mother gave her.
"Yeah, yeah, Dawnie," Carl groaned, leaning back in his seat, "we all know what you think." Carl puts the next card up.
"Statistically speaking," Carl sighed, "you should've accidentally guessed right by now." Dawn rolled her eyes and stood up. She walked behind Carl and rested her chin on his head.
"Statistically speaking," Dawn spoke, sounding bored, "he has the psychic aptitude of a dead knat's fart," then she walked around to Johnny and tweaked his chin, "thank God that he's so damn pretty." Johnny glared at Dawn half-heartedly, but pulled her into his lap anyway.
"In addition to 'psychic dolt'," He ignored Dawn's reply of 'no duh', "this test also proves I'm unlucky? Two of hearts." Again, no match. Carl snorted.
"I wouldn't say unlucky, Johnny," He chuckled as Dawn wiggled in Johnny's lap, under the pretense of getting comfortable, "you got a big breasted, gorgeous woman in your lap," he looked to his screen, "thought..." he paused, "Luck is not a factor. No one really knows why some people are sensitive and some aren't." Dawn finally chimed in.
"I still say it's brain chemistry," Dawn ate a piece of her crouscant, "some people got it right, some don't." "Like Johnny?" Carl raised a brow at Dawn's unrepentant grin, then continued, "Federal studies like this might provide a clue." Dawn laid her head on Johnny's shoulder, face in his neck and closed her eyes. He'd slipped her headphones off while she wasn't paying attention, so she didn't really care all that much. There was an old country song she knew by heart, that Carl once said summed up how she felt about Johnny.
"When you came in the air went out," She sang absently, "And every shadow filled up with doubt," she snuggled into Johnny, "I don't know who you think you are, but before the night is through, I wanna do bad things with you." Carl chuckled, "Haven't heard you sing that one for a while." "Then shut up and let me finish," She grumbled before continuing the song, "I'm the kind to sit up in his room. Heart sick an' eyes filled up with blue. I don't know what you've done to me, But I know this much is true: I wanna do bad things with you." She felt Johnny chuckling and rolled her eyes beneath closed lids.
"When you came in the air went out," She picked up, " And all those shadows there are filled up with doubt. I don't know who you think you are, but before the night is through, I wanna do bad things with you. I wanna do real bad things with you. I don't know what you've done to me, but I know this much is true: I wanna do bad things with you. I wanna do real bad things with you." Carl and Johnny clapped when she finished, but Dawn just buried her face into Johnny's neck in embarrassment.
Dawn watched the game with Carl, Carmen down closer to the field.
"Hey," Carl said softly, "you okay?" Dawn looked over at him. She looked a bit confused, but Carl could see the pain just past it.
"Dawnie..." He said her name softly. "I'll live, Carl," She spoke, her chuckle forced, "I should have known he'd never..." She shook her head and turned back to the game. Johnny looked over the others in the huddle, smiling when Carmen waved, then looking confused when he looked to Carl and Dawn. Dawn looked like she'd just been kicked in the chest. She closed her eyes and looked away. Dizzy looked up with him, seeing Dawn as she stood up and walked out of the stadium.
"What's wrong with Dawn?" Johnny asked Dizzy. The redhead rolled her eyes.
"You really ARE an idiot, Johnny Rico," Dizzy hissed quietly, "if you can't see for yourself." Carmen had seen Dawn and followed her out.
"Dawnie?" She called, hearing soft sobbing in the shadows. "Just leave me alone, Carmy," Dawn sniffled. "Dawnie..." "Just go, Carmen," Dawn snapped, "you've already broken me once." ................... NOTE: A nod to the theme song of True Blood.

Title: Lonely Hearts Collide Author: Me. Fandom: Starship Troopers 1. Pairing: future Johnny/Dawn *OC*, established Johnny/Carmen. ...................... Casting:
Johnny Rico: Casper Van Dien. Carmen 'Carmy' Ibanez: Denise Richards. Desiree 'Dizzy' Flores: Dina Meyer. Dawn 'Sunny Jim' Jiminez: Ashley Greene. Carl 'Super Brain' Jenkins(?): Neil Patrick Harris. ...................... Chapter Three:
"Alright, everybody," The DJ spoke, "this is the last dance, so let's turn down the lights and make it a slow one." The music slowed in a instant, the students taking up partners or getting a drink. It'd been a day since the game. And neither Carl, Johnny, Dizzy or Carmen had seen hide nor hair of Dawn. Nobody blamed Dawn for 'running' or 'hiding', either. Every person at that school, students and teachers, could tell that Dawn was in love with Johnny and that Johnny was just too damn blind to see. Dizzy looked like she'd wanted to kill Johnny and Carl just avoided him all together. Carmen was the innocent, so to speak, but they still wouldn't really speak to her. Not unless absolutely necessary. Carl's mom had managed to talk Dawn into going to the dance, not that anyone knew it. She'd even GIVEN the 18 year old a dress. It was her old wedding dress, actually. Johnny's mom helped Carl's take the train off and they left the petticoat put away. The hair implants were coined as 'mood rings', but could have set colors. And right now, they were white to match the dress. And when the four saw her, they looked like their chins collectively hit the floor.
She was standing with Mr Rasczak, talking. The dress had a corseted bodice, the colored lights gleaming off the clear sequins and beading. The amount of cleavage created by the corset was grabbing a lot of attention, which is probably why Mr Rasczak was standing with her. He'd never had kids, so he treated Dawn like she was his only one, which was in a way true. The only reason that her mom had any contact with her was for certain legal purposes. Mr Rasczak had been appalled with his sister when she'd abandoned Dawn at the public library when the girl was five, so Dawn had been living with him since then.
"Oh my god," Carmen and Dizzy said together. The black of Dawn's hair was up in braids and curls, the white locks the only ones hanging down and perfectly straight.
"Absolutely stunning," Carl said breathlessly. Everyone in existance knew what Carl's preference was. And they couldn't care less. The girls had just been glad that the discrimnation against same sex couples was abolished. Well, almost. People still hated them, people still prevented things. But if the government heard of the prevention of jobs or other things, the people doing the preventing were arrested.
"I should kill him," Mr Rasczak hissed. Dawn smacked her uncle's arm.
"He broke your heart, Dawnie," The man looked at her. Dawn sighed heavily, "I should have realized that he was never mine, Uncle Jean." Mr Rasczak tucked a white lock behind her ear.
"What about the promise he made when you were kids, Dawnie?" Dawn glared at her uncle. Ever since the game, she'd really been trying to forget the promise. The promise had been broken the second he ever laid eyes on Carmen Ibanez anyway. He just didn't know it back then. Dawn laughed when Dizzy forced Johnny to dance with her, snicker behind a white satin gloved hand. Johnny felt the biggest guilt about Dawn. His parents both yelled at him for not realizing it sooner. He knew how bad Carmen felt for not seeing it AT ALL. He just wished that he could say sorry.
As the other chattered about what they got, Johnny and Mobile Infantry, Carmen and Fleet, Carl and Military Intelligence, Dawn had come up, handing a paper to the recruiting officer.
"Well, damn, Jiminez," He chuckled, "following in your Uncle's footsteps, huh?" The others looked to Dawn and instantly recognized a cheery facade.
"Yuppers," She chuckled, ignoring Johnny and Carmen, eyes flicking to Carl every once and a while, "wouldn't have it any other way. Helps that he got me recommendations out the ass," Dawn rolled her eyes and snorted, "he's been training me since I came to live with him as a kid. So where else would I be?" When Dawn went to walk away, Carmen grabbed her arm.
"Dawn," She spoke softly, not letting the girl reply, "I never knew." Dawn sighed shakily and looked down.
"I don't blame you, hon," Dawn chuckled, truthfully for the first time in a while. The two girls hugged, Carl looking rather put out and Johnny just generally confused. Johnny looked at his friend and Carl mouthed to him 'it's not her fault you didn't see she was in love with you'. Then Carmen smiled brightly, as she always did.
"Let's all make a vow," She started. Dawn jumped in, "To the fact that Johnny is, and always will be, retarded?" Carl laughed.
"Ouch, Dawn, just ouch," Johnny rolled his eyes. Dawn looked at Johnny with a raised brow, before turning back to Carmen.
"Continue, Carmy," She prodded. Carmen just smiled and shook her head.
"Let's swear we'll always be friends no matter what," She finished. Dawn looked a little hesitant, but she didn't want to lose her friends just cause one was an idiot.
"I'm in," She spoke, her voice audibly shaky. Carl put his arm around her shoulder.
"I'll go for that," Johnny spoke. "Well, we're gonna be millions of light years away from each other," Carl spoke, holding on to Dawn with one arm around her, the other holding her hand, "and chances are we'll never see each other again..." "That's the part that scares me..." Dawn said softly. Johnny felt like he was kicked in the chest...repeatedly...when she directed her gaze to him. Despite all that had happened, she didn't hate him for it. He just hoped that she'd forgive him one day.
"But sure," Carl finished with a chuckle.

Chapter Four: NOTE: Dawn has a high level of psychic ability, like Carl, but hers lay in a different field. Think Edward from Twilight, kids. SCRIPT: www.imsdb.com/scripts/Starship-Troopers.html"You talk to Carl?" Carmen asked. Johnny sighed and ran a hand through his short hair. "He left this morning. He couldn't say where." Carmen nodded, then turned to get her pass. "What about Dawn?" She asked, "she still not speaking to you?" Johnny felt bad, but he shook his head. "She got on the transport this morning," He admitted, a tiny smile on his face, though he didn't know it, "Mr Rasczak is taking her to boot*." Zim didn't seem impressed with the girl that Rasczak had left with them...at first. But the girl proved him wrong. Rasczak called her Sunny Jim and he didn't know why. That was until he heard her name. Dawn Jiminez. Sunny for Dawn and Jim for Jiminez. Rasczak instructed her to stay at Zim's side unless the man said otherwise. And she did just that. Only leaving, though, to change into uniform. And when Zim saw her, he could tell she'd been born for it. Zim smirked at Dawn. "Ready to beat down some recruits, Sunny Jim?" He asked her with a chuckle. Dawn nodded. "Oh, so ready, sir," She replied. Her uncle said she could be blunt with Zim, so she was. "Gotta vent my sexual frustration somewhere, sir," She finished with a chuckle. Zim rolled his eyes and they went on to face the recruits. Dawn watched on in amusement as Zim barked at the recruits. When her eyes passed over Johnny, she wasn't at all surprised. "Sunny Jim!" Dawn's head snapped to the side. Zim nodded toward a lane, twin white picket fences on either side. She nodded back, knowing that he wanted her to explain it. "Well, ya bunch of pussies," She barked, surprising Johnny with her language, "you see that?" She pointed to the lane, "that is where you fucking pieces of cat shit will go if you either fuck up, piss off the wrong person, or Zim gets tired of your shit." Zim looked mock-offended and scoffed. Dawn just rolled her eyes at him. Then she steeled herself. "I just beg your forgiveness for one thing, sir," She spoke. Zim raised a brow at her. Things had just suddenly got interesting. "You are forgiven," He said carefully, "just do it...whatever it is." Dawn let out a breath. Then she turned and walked over to the recruits, stopping in front of Johnny. Johnny looked petrified, thinking she was going to deck him. The other recruits watched as she grabbed him by the front of his uniform and kissed him...hard. When she pulled away and stepped back, Johnny looked dazed and stunned. Zim cleared his throat and Dawn looked over to him. "Sorry, sir, but I've been wanting to do that for years." The entire base was buzzing after Dawn's little 'stunt'. And Dawn didn't regret it one bit. It sure as shit made her feel a hell of a lot better, especially after what had happened for the past couple weeks. Dawn rolled her eyes at Zim when he put the knife in Ace's hand. When they were having an exercise, two things happened: Dizzy showed up and a message came for Dawn. "Captain Jiminez?" Zim's second, Corporal Bronski, spoke. Dawn turned to him, winking at Dizzy, who stood next to him. "Got something for me, B?" She spoke. Bronski handed her an envelope and walked away. Dizzy took up a spot next to her as she read the letter. Sunny Jim, I wanted to tell you that I picked up again with the roughnecks. I know that you wanted me to avoid it, if at all possible. But with what's been happening lately, I had to pick it up. I know that you'll want to kick my ass next time you see me, but I still love you, Dawn. Dawn cursed under her breath and paced. ..................... NOTE: *Taking her to boot = aka BOOT CAMP, kiddies.

SCRIPT: www.imsdb.com/scripts/Starship-Troopers.html"We all have one thing in common," Smith spoke, pausing when a nude Dawn walked into the shower, "oh, there is a God..." Dawn raised a trim brow at him and chuckle. "Get an eyeful, boys," She laughed, then looked to Ace, "yes, they're real." Smith shook his head before continuing. "We were all stupid enough to sign up for Mobile Infantry," He chuckled, putting his head under the spray for a second, "What's your excuse, Breckinridge?" Dawn popped her neck, then stepped under the spray. Her eyes closed as she listened to the people around her. "His family's farmers," She sighed, "He hates it, thinks this is a picnic compared." Breckinridge looked at her in surprise and Johnny just rolled his eyes. "And D'Jana?" Smith prodded Dawn. "Politics," She chuckled opening one eye, "she may be the only politician I ever like." D'Jana chuckled and shook her head. "Katrina?" Smith threw out. "She wants to be a mom," She spoke, Johnny noticing the haunted smile on her face. "Ace?" "He wants to go career," She chuckled and shook her head, "my uncle was career until he lost a hand." Johnny nodded absently, Smith not missing the action. "You know her uncle?" "He was one of our teachers in High School," Johnny spoke. Then Ace smirked, as if realizing something. "You haven't seen her naked before, have you?" Ace indicated Dawn. Johnny glared and the others laughed. "No," She snickered, turning to face the others, "he hasn't," she looked to Ace, "poor boy's still a virgin." "Ouch," Ace hissed, a snicker hidden behind it. Johnny grumbled to himself and stuck his head under the spray. "What about Shijumi?" Smith asked, changing the subject. Dawn hummed an old song called Paparazzi under her breath. "Harvard scholarship," She chuckled. Dizzy walks into the shower, taking up the one next to Dawn. "What about Rico?" Smith asked. Dizzy and Dawn looked at each other and laughed. "He joined for a girl," Dawn smiled at Johnny, then pouted, "sadly, it wasn't me." Ace, Shijumi, Smith, Breckinridge, Katrina and D'Jana looked at Johnny like he was insane. "The girl he joined for is Fleet," Dawn left the vague thought. "What about you, Flores?" Smith asked. Dawn looked at Johnny, who was half-mast. Damn her, He grumbled, Dawnie is an evil, evil bitch. Katrina noticed and whispered to Dawn, who smirked at Johnny, then looked pointedly at his anatomy. "See something you like, Rico?" She smirked in a way that made Ace proud. Johnny glared at her. You know I do.Dawn pouted, "You poor baby," She chuckled, "whatever will we do with you now?" Just put me out of my fucking misery."Nope," She walked over and tapped Johnny on the nose, "what good would you be to Carmen if I did that?" Johnny just glared. The others looked to Dizzy, who raised her hands in surrender. "Those two have known each other since they were in diapers," She admitted, "plus, I've seen them do weirder shit." Ace raised a blonde brow, "Weirder than a one sided conversation naked in the shower?" Dizzy nodded, "Dawnie's psychic. Could have been Military Intelligence, but she said no." Katrina leaned in toward Dizzy. "She keeps poking him like that and we may get a floor show," She pointed out, directing Dizzy's line of sight to Johnny and Dawn. Johnny looked like he was right about to push Dawn under the spray and kiss her breathless. Dizzy shrugged. "They vent one way or another," Dizzy said back to Katrina. Dizzy missed it as Johnny backed Dawn into the circular rail of the shower. Just as Johnny leaned down toward Dawn....Dizzy hit Johnny with a cold spray of water.

Ace, Shijumi and Smith mooned the camera. Then Dawn peeked her head into frame. "Carmy, Johnny's being an evil tease and won't let me molest him," She called to the camera. "Hey, do you mind?" He chuckled. Dawn kissed his cheek, "Not if I can help it." Dawn squeaked when Ace sweeped her up, throwing her over his shoulder. "Carmy, save me from the cavemen!" She called to the camera. Then Ace walked off camera. He set Dawn down on one of the bunks and she poked him in the hip with her foot. She got down off the bunk and ran back to Johnny. "Save me, Carmy," She laughed, Ace and Shijumi chasing after her. She hid behind Breckinridge. "Sure, hide behind the farm boy," Ace pouted. Carmen rolled her eyes at the video letter. Dawn definitely looked a lot happier. /we ain't got no place to go so let's go to the punk rock show/Playing 'Capture The Flag' with laser tag gear was fun. Dawn was on Johnny's team, one of the few indulgences Zim let her have, playing sniper up on top one of the blocks. And since she was laying on her stomach, nobody could hit her. Not for lack of trying. "Cover me," Johnny told Dizzy and Dawn. Dawn cocked the laser rifle, "Got it, gorgeous." When Johnny's back was turned to her and Dizzy, Dawn shook her head. "Look at that ass, Diz," She sighed, knowing Johnny could hear her. /darling take me by the hand we're gonna see a punk rawk band/Dizzy rolled her eyes. "Hi, Johnny, I would've written sooner," Carmen said as she appeared on the screen, dressed down, "but they've really got us going every moment here." Dawn felt a pang of jealous when Ace made the comment that Johnny didn't deserve Carmen. More like she doesn't deserve him, She thought to herself with a sigh. "I'm glad you're doing so well. If they haven't made you squad leader by now, I'm sure you will." Johnny held up the chevrons. "All it takes is the love of a good woman..." Dawn growled and got up, walking out of the barracks. Chapter Seven: NOTE: Dawn has a high level of psychic ability, like Carl, but hers lay in a different field. Think Edward from Twilight, kids. SCRIPT: www.imsdb.com/scripts/Starship-Troopers.htmlThe next day they were having a live fire exercise. And Johnny was frozen. He watched as Dawn's eyes widened. She made a break for Breckinridge, who was standing at the top of a hump, helmet off. It was almost in slow motion as the live shot hit Dawn's shoulder, instead of splattering Breckinridge's head on the ground. "Dawnie!!" Johnny and Dizzy yelled at the same time. Shijumi and Smith made it to her first. When Dawn got hit, the momentum of her body swinging sent her and Breckinridge rolled down the hump. Breckinridge had held her close, so that she didn't get more hurt from falling and rolling. Breckinridge sat up, letting Shijumi take Dawn, who was chuckling. "Can't let the farm boy get taken out before he gets some action," She weakly wagged her brows at Katrina before passing out. In his lab, Carl stumbled and fell to his knees, holding his shoulder. The techs rushed to help him, but he brushed them off. Only one person he knew could send something out like that. He looked up and his eyes widened. Dawnie got hurt. Johnny paced. Zim tore into him and Breckinridge, but backed off when Dizzy jumped in. She'd said that Dawnie knew that something was going to happen. Shijumi had confirmed it. Johnny sat down on his bunk, camera in hand. Carmen pushed play on the E-Disc and Johnny, weary and tired, appeared on the screen. "Hey," He croaked, "if Carl hasn't told you already..." Carmen's brows furrowed and she watched as Johnny lifted his head, tears in his eyes, "Dawnie's been hurt, Carmen...." Carmen gasped and put a hand over her mouth. Her captain came up behind her, watching the message. "It was during a live fire exercise," Johnny croaked, "one of our team was almost..." he took a shaky breath, "his name's Breckinridge. You'd like him, big guy, farm boy, real gentle. If Dawnie...if she hadn't of..." A blonde young man (Ace) took the camera from Johnny and Carmen saw it shifting, two women making Johnny lay back. "Dawn took the shot FOR Farm Boy," Ace spoke, pointing the camera to Breckinridge, who was sitting vigil next to another bunk. In that bunk, was an unconscious Dawn, pale as death, shoulder wrapped. Then the camera shifted back to Ace, who was walking to the furthest end of the barracks from Johnny and Dawn. He turned the camera and zoomed in, Carmen watching as Breckinridge carried Dawn across the barracks and laid her on Johnny's bunk with him, Johnny laying on his side, moving limp black locks out of Dawn's face. "Mail call, bitches!" Zim called, carrying a white box in one hand, a cage in the other. Zim set the box on the table, then walked over to Dawn, who was sitting a little further down the table. He couldn't help the smile that came to his face when she saw the cage. "Cyrano!" She said happily. Zim set the cage down on the table. The worried ferrett sniffed at Dawn's fingers, nuzzling them the best he could. Johnny pulled up a chair and sat next to her. He took the grey/white ferret out of the cage and set him on Dawn's good shoulder. The ferret buried his face into Dawn's neck and hid under her hair. "I missed you too, Cyrano," She said softly. "Who's this?" Katrina said when Cyrano's head peeked out of Dawn's hair. Johnny looked up. "Cyrano," He chuckled, "he's our friend Carl's pet ferret." "Carl's military intelligence," Dawn chimed in, then looked at Johnny, who said with her, "eggheads." The two chuckled, Cyrano's tail wrapping gently about Dawn's neck. Zim rattled the box. "There's something for each of you," He spoke. He handed a pack of E-Discs to everyone but Johnny and Dawn. Ace laughed when he saw what was written on the pack, 'How to Care For Dawn Jiminez and Johnny Rico' by Carmen Ibanez and Carl Jenkins. Katrina showed Dawn the writing and Dawn rolled her eyes. "Figures," She snorted. Zim handed Johnny an envelope from his parents. Johnny opened it and chuckled at what spilled out, along with a note that said they got it from Mr Rasczak. It was the plastic macaroni necklace that Johnny made for Dawn when they'd first met. Johnny moved Cyrano, before putting the necklace around her neck. Cyrano curled up in Dawn's lap. "That's cute," Breckinridge flicked the necklace. Dawn chuckled, "It was the first thing Johnny gave me. That he did for himself. We were in kindergarten art class." Ace pinched Johnny's cheek, jumping back to avoid getting smacked. "How cute," Ace laughed.
