Chapter One:
Bella just wanted to die. He left her, gone. No more. Left her in the dark, in the middle of nowhere, and without a safe way out. She had fallen to her knees a while ago and had no idea how she ended up curled in a ball on the forest floor. She didn't see what was coming toward her, as her eyes were closed tight. Quint stopped when she saw the girl, the one that her father described to her. Jasper Whitlock had found an infant in a garbage can, when on a trip in Texas little over twenty years ago. He gave the girl to Peter and Charlotte, who raised her at their hacienda in the boonies outside Dallas. She went on to work for the military at a young age. Now she was black ops. But when her dad called her, told him about Edward leaving Bella, she came running. Nobody knew, outside of Jasper, Peter and Charlotte, that Quint was a quarter breed. The child of a half-breed and a human.
Jasper caught up with Quint and stood out of Bella's line of sight. Quint went up to Bella, not knowing that the two were being watched by the alpha werewolf of La Push. She unzipped her coat and shucked it, laying it over her lap before looking back over her shoulder.
"Dad," She called to Jasper, "I'll need your help. I want to get the coat on her, I'll be fine without it."
In the bushes, Sam watched as Quint carefully put her ANXO Women's Bulletproof leather jacket on Bella, as Jasper held her up. Bella blinked sleepily, her eyes focusing, revealing Jasper and an unknown girl. Jasper smiled at her when he noticed Bella looking at him. He moved a lock of mahogany hair out of Bella's face and chuckled, as Quint zipped up the jacket.
"Hey, darlin'," He said softly, "Quint and I will get you out of here, 'kay?"
Bella made a noise to the affirmative and Sam came out of the bushes, after he put on some pants. Quint's hand went quickly to one of her guns and Jasper held Bella protectively to his chest. Sam held his hands up, in that universal 'I mean no harm'.
"If I carry her," He spoke, "she'll be a lot warmer."
Quint sighed and nodded, putting her hand on her father's shoulder.
"He's right, dad," She told him, standing, "a Were's body heat is more than mine."
Jasper let Sam take Bella and the two followed him back to the Swan house. Jasper had the vague thought of what Quint was wearing, Alice and Rosalie being an influence on his knowledge of fashion to a point. Her top was a black buckle strap corset top from www.emp.de. Her pants were a pair of Rad Hourani Crepe and Leather straps trousers from www.luisviaroma.com. Her shoes were a pair of Fendi leather military button knee high boots. She wore a black crystal paved leather collar around her neck, the only true 'adornment' to her total outfit. She also had her government badge around her kneck, her alphabet soup badges hanging off her hip. Her gloves were a pair of fire and slash resistant black gloves with kevlar. And throwing knives were strapped to her thighs.
"I'll call the Cullens again," Charlie sighed, running his hand over his hair, "her note said she and Edward went for a walk."
What had to be half the town, was scattered around outside the house. Bella had been gone for hours, all that was left that even hinted at her whereabouts WAS a note.
"They left town, Charlie," Billy Black spoke with a tired sigh.
He didn't like the leeches much, but he had to admit that the sudden disappearance was suspicious. Rumor was, though, that Jasper Hale was still in town. That's when he had a thought.
"Does Bella have Jasper's number?" Billy asked, ignoring the look he got from his son.
Charlie's brows furrowed, but he nodded.
"Why?" He asked.
"Some of the kids," Billy answered, "some of Seth's friends, said they saw the Cullens ditch Jasper Hale. They don't know why, but..." He shrugged.
Charlie pulled out Bella's cellphone, finding Jasper's number under Rosalie's. Jasper didn't miss a step when his cellphone rang. He looked at it. It was Charlie.
"We found her," was the first thing Jasper said when he answered, "my god-sister Quint and I found her. I didn' like how Edward did things..."
"Did what?" Charlie asked, sighing heavily.
"Edward broke up with Bella in the most abominable way," Jasper admitted, "then he proceeded to lie to the family and said it was amicable, that she understood. I called Quint and she helped me look for her. A young man from the reservation, Sam, is carrying her. He has better body heat than Quint and myself."
Charlie let out a breath of relief.
"I would like you to know, Chief Swan, that I do not agree with how Edward handled this," Jasper told Charlie, "and Quint and myself would be agreeable in helping her cope."
"Cope?" Charlie said in confusion, earning looks from Billy and Harry Clearwater.
Quint stole the phone from Jasper, "What he's trying to say, sir, was that Edward told her that the family was leaving Forks. Bella, sweet girl that she is, said she would go with him," she chuckled when Sam rolled his eyes and grumbled about stupid idiots, "at the party that his family threw for her birthday, Bella hurt herself on one of the presents and Edward blamed Jasper. Said that it was his fault. Although, sir, I do not see how he could have been at fault, when it was Alice that handed her the present, and Jasper was on the other side of the room from her."
Charlie grit his teeth, his thoughts promising death to the little shit named Edward Cullen.
"Bella had told Edward, more than once," She continued, "that she didn't blame Jasper, but Edward wouldn't listen to her. He refused to believe her. He yelled at her and said that they didn't belong together, that she couldn't come with him. He told her he didn't want her, that..." She let out a shaky breath, "he basically ordered her not to do something HE viewed as stupid and reckless. He played dirty and made her promise, for your sake, sir."
"That little shit!" Charlie growled, everyone looking to him.
"He said that time heals all wounds if not reminded, sir," She sighed, keeping that little hiss out of her voice as they walked out of the treeline.
Jacob pointed them out to Charlie and the two hung up the phones. Charlie tucked Bella's phone in his pocket and walked up to them.
"Sir," Quint nodded to him, Jasper standing at her side, "I believe that he intends to sneak in," She told him, "take everything that he ever gave her, any pictures, any proof of his existance. And leave her with nothing. I've seen that done to a few," She looked to Jasper, "Alice did that to Jasper," then back to Charlie, "and it cuts to the bone, sir," Quint noticed how Charlie stared at her badges, relaxing, "if you let us, sir, Jasper and I do not intend on giving him the satisfaction. I hope to remove the articles myself and hide them. Jasper knows how," Charlie looked to Jasper, who nodded.
Jacob glared at Jasper, then looked to Quint.
"Why should he believe you?" Jacob snarked.
Quint raised a trim brow, "Because it's been done to me," She told Jacob directly, "and my father is still putting the pieces back together. Still trying to put me back together. I don't want it to happen to a sweet thing like her," she gestured to Bella with her head.
