Title: The Girl He Called Sister
Author: Me.
Fandom: Hellboy (movie-verse)
……………………
Prologue:
He called her Hadassah. She had come through with Hellboy, aged 3, where Hellboy was just an infant of possibly 1 year. Trevor Broom waved the candy bar at the red ‘infant’, hearing a hissing snicker when the boy snatched it from his hand. The flashlight was shone where the hissing laugh was heard from, the boy with the candy bar actually stopping to hiss and growl at them. As if trying to draw the attention away.
“It’s alright,” Broom held out his hand.
Little red fingers gripped the side of the stone casket. A head full of black hair, falling into the face of a child, who was shaking. Whether from the cold or from fright, Trevor Broom didn’t know.
“It’s okay, little one,” He got on his knees, holding both hands out, palms upward.
Broom watched as the tiny fingers tried to grip his hand, but the little red child collapsing. A blanket was brought instantly and Broom used it to scoop her up. Her leg was twisted in an unnatural position and her tail was broken. She lifted her little head and her gold eyes shot to the infant boy holding the candy bar.
“Is he your brother?” Broom asked.
The girl looked to him and chewed on her bottom lip. After a moment, she nodded, slowly. Broom held her tightly against him and stood up, before sitting her on the stone casket. He laid her down, since it was obvious that she wouldn’t be able to stay upright. He got another blanket, then looked to the infant. He seemed to look to the little girl, as if asking if it was safe. She nodded to him and he jumped down, landing in Broom’s arms. He wrapped the little boy up and sit him down next to the girl. The soldiers gathered around and the girl whimpered. Trevor Broom stroked the girl’s hair.
“It’s alright, little one,” He spoke, “they will not hurt you.”
The soldiers all made their noises of agreement, before a medic rushed forward. The infant, using one hand to hold the blanket, used the other to grab onto Trevor’s arm and pull himself up. The baby boy watched as the medic tended to the girl, righting her leg and fixing her tail.
“Professor Broom named the girl Hadassah,” Matlin spoke, “and the baby boy ended up being called Hellboy.”
